FUN Society Gala

Friends Uniting for Nature (FUN) Society is a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to empower kids and youth to make positive change by inspiring them into action. We believe in a world where an informed and engaged society works together to tackle the social and environmental challenges we face. FUN Society provides a space for kids and youth to connect with themselves, others, their community and the natural world. This helps them discover their power for positive change using their passion, tools and teamwork. Everything we do is fun, because it’s not sustainable if it isn’t fun!

We help inspire kids into action through our two main programs, FUN Camps and FUN Champs. During our summer day camps, which run in Vancouver, Victoria and Colwood, the kids and youth are supported to create their own Passion Projects, an idea inspired by a passion and something to better their community or environment. Campers who are dedicated to putting their ideas into action pitch their ideas at the summer end gala with the hopes they will be accepted into the FUN Champs program. In this program the kids and youth participate in project development workshops, receive one-on-one mentorship and funding to help them implement their projects. We had many successful projects last year including building a book box, putting on a fundraiser for wolves and leading a field trip to an old growth forest.

On September 6th we had the incredible opportunity to hold our summer end gala at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum to celebrate FUN Camps and to launch the FUN Champs program. The Beaty Biodiversity Museum was the ideal venue. The experience coincided perfectly with FUN Society’s vision and allowed the guests to see the diversity and interconnectivity of our natural world. During the gala the guests had an opportunity to walk around the museum before congregating in the auditorium for the FUN Champs presentations and celebration of the summer of camp. The auditorium was perfect and enabled us to show videos and Powerpoint presentations. The presentations were fabulous, with additional videos and creative ideas of making and installing bat boxes, founding an environmental club and designing interactive board games. We look forward to seeing the success of the projects to come!
