Microscopic Plants in a Big Ocean are Way Cool because…

2016-12-way-cool-web-2Come learn about the astounding diversity of phytoplankton – tiny plant-like organisms that live throughout our world’s oceans. An entire ecosystem, invisible to the naked eye, has dramatic impacts on the air we breathe, the fish we eat, and even Earth’s climate. Biological Oceanography Master’s student Alysia Herr will explore the “paradox of the plankton” – why do we see such a vast diversity of species in an environment so seemingly uniform? What role do these organisms play in their environment, and in what surprising ways might they be affecting our climate?
