Nocturnal: Museum as Muse

Join us for an evening with artist Catherine M. Stewart, creator of our feature exhibition Skin & Bones, as we celebrate the release of two new books based on her exhibits at the Beaty.

The Skin & Bones exhibition explores our complicated relationship with the animal world through photography, natural science and the applied art of fashion design. The exhibition runs until August 13th 2019.

Invoking Venus opened at the museum in 2013 and juxtaposed images of bird specimens from the Beaty alongside those of sumptuous fabrics to explore the role colour, patterning and adornment play in courtship and attraction.

Catherine will be speaking about her work combining scientific specimens with artistic principles, and you’ll be free to explore her latest exhibition, and the collections that inspired it.

Let us know on Facebook if you’ll be joining us!

The museum will be open from 5pm to 8:30pm
