Gwaii Haanas, Haida Gwaii, Canada
I was in Gwaii Haanas searching for the only indigenous amphibian on Haida Gwaii, the Western toad (hlk‘yan k’uust’an) as part of my PhD project. We took a ferry, drove dirt roads and boated for over 3 hours and then walked through the forest to get to this bog when I came across a juvenile toad sitting on a log staring at me. Look at those cute beady little eyes!
