Mandarte Island, British Columbia
This song sparrow (Melospiza melodia) lives on Mandarte Island, a small island in the southern Gulf of British Columbia. The combination of colored bands on the legs of this bird identifies it as a male that was raised in a nest with two other young and an unfertilized egg in April 2017. He remained unpaired in 2018 and 2019, but genetic analysis will reveal if he sired any extra-pair offspring in neighbouring territories.
