Feather Star in the Shallows

Andulay, Negros Oriental, Philippines

Anneissia bennetti, one of eight feather star species whose behaviour our team studied along the depth gradient from shallow (0-30m) to mesophotic (30-60m). Here, A. bennetti can be seen perched on a shallow coral reef, suspension feeding. Feather stars catch food particles using their tiny tube feet and shuttle them down their arms towards their mouth located at the central disc.
