Herbarium at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew – United Kingdom
Herbarium collections are a treasure chest for current and future generations of plant researchers from diverse fields. Advances in DNA sequencing technologies have opened up herbarium specimens (even century-old ones!) for use in genomic studies. I took this picture at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, where I used herbarium specimens as DNA sources for genomic studies of crop yams and their wild relatives, sampling a global diversity of species that would have been impossible to access otherwise.
