Biological Wonders: An Artistic Investigation with Pencil and Watercolour – Sharon Bladholm

Join Chicago-based artist Sharon Bladholm for a dynamic workshop based on specimens from the Beaty Biodiversity Museum’s collections of biological wonders, including forest and ocean specimens, as well as fresh local plant specimens.Sharon has been the artist for scientific expeditions to the Peruvian Amazon with the Field Museum of Natural History and Conservation International, as well as with the Botanical Research Institute of Texas.

We will examine these unique treasures, and participants will choose ones of interest to initially render forms in pencil drawings.

Subsequently, watercolour will be applied lightly over the drawings to create a dance of colour and line.

To draw something is to never forget it and engages the brain in interesting ways, as the world slows down when we truly examine and observe something, noticing nature’s amazing forms, textures and colors.
