My mother tells me that when I was four years old, I went for a walk with the daycare staff one day and ate a mushroom. I picked it up and popped it into my mouth before any of the adults realized what I was doing.

A new species of Pyropia from the central coast of BC
Winter is a great time to view the diversity of foliose Bangiales on our shore. This is the time of year these foliose species complete their sexual cycle. Many of these species, grow on high intertidal bedrock in the dead of winter.

I had never before been out on a Bryoforay, so I had no idea what to expect when my supervisor invited me to one. She explained that the trip would involve exploring trails and various forested area in search of interesting plants, so of course I agreed to go!
