Burdock and Bee – Barbara Neto-Bradley

Burdock and Bee

Oslo, Norway

This wooly burdock typically blooms during a floral lull, after the peak of Summer. Perhaps this is strategic, engaging the help of the red tailed bumblebee and providing it with a food source until the next bloom comes along. But it is mid July, the Summer has been warm in Oslo and these flowers are already out. From a plants’ perspective, the predictability of the weather indicates when they should do what. Changes in climate threaten to throw off some of the synchrony of these milestones.
